When wolves become shepherds…

A shepherd was out with his sheep one day, when a wolf came along and attacked one of them. The man chased after the wolf and took his sheep back. The wolf then turned, and spoke to the shepherd:
”If today you are protecting the sheep, but who will protect the sheep on the Day of Savagery, when there will be no shepherd to protect the sheep, except me.
The day, when wolves become shepherds…”

And today, when US president Barack Hussain Obama was awarded the Nobel Prize in Peace “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples”…
…my initial reaction was:
”Say WHAT??”

Now don’t get me wrong…its not like I don’t like Obama (his monkey-faced predecessor yes, but not him, really) but I’d like to know two things:
1) What exactly did Obama do to deserve a “peace” award and
2) was there really no one else in the world who made a bigger contribution to peace this year???

Yes, I really would appreciate it if any of those guys from the Nobel Committee cared to explain exactly WHY the hell would they want to give a “peace” award for someone who hasn’t really done anything so far.
I mean okay, so he’s “strengthening diplomacy” but is that what a peace prize is for? Almost seems like an insult to what Mother Teresa did.

Which brings us to my next question:
This whole “strengthening diplomacy” thing – is that honestly the best anyone has done for peace this year; out of 6 billion people? Seriously?
Wow, it that’s really true, the future of humanity doesn’t look very promising.

But then maybe I’m just over-reacting. I guess at some level this is good news; because now the Nobel Prize – the Epitome of all that is Great and High – all of a sudden seems within reach of almost anyone.
I mean come on, if Obama can bag a peace prize after calling for renewed attacks on a country America invaded… its almost surprising why anyone else can’t have one.

Hmm, I wonder if Britney Spears would like a Nobel Prize in Chemistry next year…
Think I’ll start a campaign or something.
Who’s with me?

You are not over-reacting. What you say is right. Even I am of the same view. I do like Obama, but this thing somewhat shakes my liking for him... I mean, if he really is good and noble person then he himself also knows what and what not he deserves. Why wouldn't he be modest?

@Darshan
Yeah.
Someone wrote on an online forum,
"I have a great vision for a writing a book...can I have a Nobel prize?"

It should be your actual work that gets the prize...not the vision.

I appreciate Noble peace prize committee…

You know its kinda like bonding people or rather say forcing him to do so, cause he is already paid for it.

All the American president have an attitude of “GO FOR WAR/ ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK”

Now that Obaaaaamaaaaaaaaaaaa has got this prize.. he can’t attack any country… he he
Big game dude.. Game of politics & Human rights

Hmmm... The choice of Mr Obama has definitely invited a lot of attention about this year's peace prize... And yes, the president has only laid out visions. Not much of actions, but yet he seems to have done much from a President'
s stand point.
Let's see how the world progresses with the most peaceful man at the helm of affairs :)

@Dhanya
LOL yeah; he's probably wondering why he never got one too :)

@Sheeraz
Actually i think you might be right here...paid in full before even doing it to guilt-force you into actually promoting peace.
But the question is, will it work?

I mean, its not like they're gonna take away his Nobel Prize if he starts a new war or anything.

@issam
Think you already realized where I..er..'borrowed' the title from :D

Anyway, the way things are going at the hands of Mr. Obama doesn't look too promising...but we'll see.

When I heard Obama got the prize...even I said "SAy What??"...but one thing. Why are we attacking Obama for this? If the news was that he bribed them for the award...sure, good enough reason. But I think even he's as surprised as the rest of us. He's even said that in a very diplomatic way.

The only people who really need some explaining to do....are those 16 chaps who decided on him. But then again...who else would you choose?

salams, been quite a while.

even i saw a question mark when my dad told me obama gt nobel peace prize.

its certainly not completely hi-fi peace movement, but what he is deffinitely praiseworthy, considering what his preecessors have done.

i still feel that the choice aint bad, but ist noble prize a lill toooo much.

or havnt anyone sone better fr peace lately? :-/

and... nice display pic :P

You know, I guess the *real* reason we all question Obama is because we don't really know (or care) who those other guys who won other Nobel Prizes are.
But then it is exactly for that reason that we question him...because of the oh-so-popular guy he is.

@shimmer
Wa alikum as salaam
Yeah, that's what scares me that no one has probably done a better job of anything for peace this year.

...and hey, thx!

I think you've got to have hit a low, when you're giving a guy a nobel because of what he could have done, but didnt do.

I think we give too much importance to Nobel price, oscar awards etc., Personally i think the prices donot hallmark the best ones out. Most of the best ones are not recognised.

Anywayz, I think this price is ok, acceptable compared to the nobel peace prize given to Shimon Peres (insult to the meaning of Peace itself) ...

@RukmaniRam
Yeah, wonder if we all shld win one for the stuff we can do as well
:P

@Rayees
I think the key sentence is
"Most of the best ones are not recognised"
Rightly said.

Wow..I liked the wolf becoming the shepherd story.

Its absurd to be awarding the Nobel for just talking about peace.

And I loved the "monkey-faced predecessor" Hahahahahaha...cant stop laughing.

Thx!
And for bush, "mokey-faced" should really be a compliment
