Lonely

I recently came to realize that we have another tenant living at our place – a lonely old man who lives in a one-room apartment down in the basement.

Now, being one of only 3people who live here (this is not an apartment, its just one huge house where the owners stay in one portion and sub-let the other two to us and another couple) I was genuinely astounded to find that out – because the guy must at least a good seventy five and lives alone with a bicycle.

Yes, with a bicycle.
And one of the reasons I’ve never seen him before is because he doesn’t get out much and no one comes to see him.

It makes me re-think on all the times I’ve felt alone like when my roomie goes on vacation and stuff and realize, “God, its good to have people – friends and family – who love and care about you!”.

I guess it’s another one of those small things we all take for granted.
There is a lot in life we should be thankful for.

I completely agree with you. Life is dull without friends, relatives and colleagues. We also feel lonely without them because there's nobody to share thoughts except friends and colleagues.

You are right. We do take a lot of things for granted-especially with our parents.

Sometimes... you want to be lonely. You want to introspect yourself, listen to your " inner voice " and act accordingly. I do it sometimes. It really helps you in finding a direction, where you want to go...

Loneliness and living alone is probably one of the worst things in the world. It can mentally, emotionally, and spiritually break someone down.

I differ to agree with you again. I have seen results in my own case and have seen, some positive thoughts and ideas emerging, when you are with yourself. Try it, once. Try to introspect yourself and think, why god has sent you in this world ? We all are living stereotype lifes, doing same things, everday. Do an anaylisis of yourself, and find out the answers. There has to be some aim in life. Doing same things repeatedly, makes life boring.

Yup, there's a lot to be thankful about...

But yeah, living alone is a unique experience (scary sometimes) but I went through it just because I wanted to see how it felt like.

Vaneet, I think we can't say living with friends and doing the same things daily will "bore" us. Instead, we feel happy when we are with our friends, don't we?

I have been away from my best friends for a while and I am truly missing them. My life is dull without my those "best" friends.

I also wrote a post on my thoughts blog questioning "What Is Life".

@saurabh

Yup, and actually "colleagues" don't substitute friends...not even close. Trust me.

@Faiza
That's another interesting perspective...I guess all things go in circles; how we treat our parents probably become how we are finally treated.

@Hari
At that age, I guess its not abt socializing as much as it is about holding on to people you know.
If you've heard The Sunscreen Song, it goes, "...the older you get, the more you need people you knew when you were young."

@Vaneet
Thx for dropping by!
And I guess you're refering to something else...there's a difference between solitude and being lonely.
Solitude is a gift sometimes when you need time to yourself to think. And gives a voice to your inner thoughts.

But NO ONE wants to be lonely.

@Sindhu
To quote Sid (from IceAge):
"One truly is the loneliest number"

@Wondering mind
I'm thinking maybe like a book?

@Alok
Well on the positive side, you really learn a lot when you have no one else to depend on...I found that the hard way too.

@saurabh (again)
Dude, "Bollywood lover"?

Oh common guys, being lonely is far better for me - not that I am unsocial.

I do the i'm-better-off-when-i'm-alone talk a lot, most of the time i tell that to myself...

I'm obviously scared shitless of being alone. but then.. i do manage to pull off short periods of being alone remarkably well, to the extent that i've had other people tell me how strong I am and how well i'll manage in life even if i'm alone.

@Vaneet, Ahmed: that front isn't cool anymore ithinks...
